The Upper Denkyira
District office of the National Health Insurance Scheme on Friday, November 28,2025 had an engagement with major stakeholders under the theme dubbed,
"Attaining Universal Health Coverage; A Collective Responsibility".
The meeting which
emphasized the importance of collective action in attaining Universal Health
Coverage, with stakeholders recognising their roles and responsibilities in
ensuring all Ghanaians have access to quality, affordable health care had in
special attendance, the Sanaahene of Denkyira Traditional Council, Nana Kwasi
Saara II, Service Providers, Heads of various institutions, Assemblymembers,
G.P.R.T.U, Market Women, Hair Stylish, and the media.
Also, in attendance
were a team from the NHIA Central Regional Office and CPC, Cape Coast
comprising, Mr. Kojo Koi Sekyere Thompson (Ag. Regional Director), Mr. Daniel
Kofi Nyamadi (Ag. Operations Manager), Mr. Ishmael Atta Osei (M&E focal
person for Upper Denkyira District), and Mr. Benjamin Appiah-Kubi (Senior
Manager), Mr. John Malawiah (Manager), Mr. Abraham Brookman (Manager) all of
CPC, Cape Coast.
Mr. Isaac Bofah, the
District Manager of Upper Denkyira in his welcoming address presented the state, achievements of the district to participants citing poor network
connectivity, copayment as major challenges affecting the scheme. He proposed
the adoption of starlink to enhance connectivity.
On his part, Mr. Kojo
Koi Thompson, Ag. Central Regional Director, indicated that Ghana's goal was
achieve the Universal Health Coverage by 2030 was hinged on the NHIS with a
benchmark of at least 80% of the country's population, but the NHIA is poised and
determined to take county to Universal Health Coverage by 2026.
He stated, despite its challenges, there was no doubt that, the NHIS had given access to many people who
have been denied healthcare in various forms due to inability to pay for their
services.
Mr. Thompson, said
Executive Management led by a transformational leader, Dr. Victor Bampoe, CEO of
the Authority is focused on transforming the scheme into modern, efficient and
people centered institution, one that continuous to deliver on its promise of equitable
access to quality healthcare for all Ghanaians. He touched on Telehealth, E-
Pharmacy, Cashless registration, and the Biometric Membership Authentication
System.
On claims, Mr. Thompson
cautioned service providers to desist from collecting unauthorised monies for
service covered by the scheme from members, following the uncapping of NHIS
funds which has yielded positive impacts of settling claims promptly and on time.
He added, NHIA Management is putting pragmatic measures in place to curtail it
by intruding new realistic tariffs in early next year.
Mr. Benjamin
Appiah-Kubi, Senior Manager, CPC Cape Coast on behalf of the CPC Director, took
participates through claims management, submission and reasons for some
deductions. He urged service providers to submit claims on time as the center
is ready to work on all claims received.
He informed
participants on the intervention of a new provider portal which will allow
service providers to track claims, progress, download vetting reports, submit
requests and receive feedback in real-time.
Providers were advised
to initiate renewal of credentialling six(6) months prior to its expiry.
The meeting concluded
with a renewed commitment and dedication from participants to work collectively
in attaining the Universal Health Coverage Agenda. All concerns raised were
taken in good faith and answered by the Regional Director and his team.
