The Pediatric Society of Ghana (PSG) is seeking partnership
with the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) to boost children’s
healthcare services.
The PSG President, Dr. Hilda Mantebea Boye made the appeal
at a meeting with the NHIA Chief Executive, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, in his
office.
She highlighted child-focused healthcare interventions such
as free National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) package for children suffering
from kidney diseases, free dialysis treatment and free ambulance services for
children under five.
She also recommended the introduction of a nationwide child
health awareness campaigns and the expansion of adolescent health services
across the country.
Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe valued the heartwarming discussions
and pledged to strengthen the cordial relations between the two institutions to
accelerate Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030.
“The NHIA remains committed to finding innovative and
sustainable ways to support children’s healthcare needs.
This partnership with
the Pediatric Society of Ghana presents a valuable opportunity to work together
towards ensuring that every child in Ghana has access to quality healthcare.”
According to him, a part of the Authority’s mission is to
remove financial barriers to pediatric care.
He further proposed the provision of a national day
dedicated to children’s healthcare advocacy, similar to the annual October Pink
month used for promoting Breast cancer awareness.
