The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in the Ho
District has set an ambitious target of registering and renewing at least
10,000 memberships during this year’s Asogli Yam Festival.
The initiative is
part of the Authority’s commitment to bringing health services closer to the
people of Ho and surrounding communities.
Registration centres have been set up at four key locations:
the Togbe Afede Palace Forecourt, Royal Hospital Forecourt, Ahoe Community
Centre, and the Ho District Office, with an additional centre mounted at the
grand durbar grounds to serve festival patrons.
Speaking on the exercise, NHIS Ho District Manager Saviour
Amakpa explained that the outreach will not only boost membership but also give
residents the opportunity to interact directly with the Scheme and better
understand its operations.
Supporting this, NHIS Volta Regional Accountant Raymond
Boamah, who also serves as the liaison between the Authority and the Asogli
State, highlighted the strategic importance of the festival.
“The Asogli Te Za
is one of the most significant traditional festivals in the Ho Municipality,
making it an ideal platform to engage a wide audience. Our main goal is to
increase membership, bring services to the doorsteps of our people, listen to
their concerns, and educate them on our policies and innovations,” he said.
In addition to registration and renewals, the NHIS team will
distribute membership handbooks to improve public knowledge of the Scheme’s
benefit packages and processes. By the close of the Yam Festival, the Authority
is confident of meeting its 10,000 membership registration and renewal target,
furthering its mission of expanding access to healthcare for all.
