Majority of female staff of the National Health
Insurance Scheme (NHIS), Osu Klottey District Office have benefitted from free
breast cancer screening.
The District Office
in conjunction with the Adabraka Polyclinic management organized the event, in line
with the 2024 Breast Cancer Awareness campaigns.
The beneficiaries underwent the tests for breast
cancer, malaria, hypertension, typhoid, blood sugar, HIV, Body Mass Index (BMI),
education on self-check methods, symptoms, and treatments for breast cancer.
Those diagnosed of underlying conditions such as high
sugar levels and high blood pressure, were referred to healthcare facilities for
treatment.
The NHIS District Manager, Mr. Daniel Kojo Larbi, said
the exercise formed part of the NHIA's Preventive, Promotive and Wellness
healthcare program, tailored to the Scheme’s year-long 20th Anniversary
celebration.
"We are now shifting our focus from curative to
preventive and promotive healthcare policy direction. It is essential that we
all check our status to know how we are doing, so that it will guide us in what
we eat and how we live our lives."
Mr. Larbi encouraged women to be attentive to
unfamiliar symptoms on their breasts and promptly visit healthcare facilities for
assistance.
The beneficiaries thanked the organizers for placing
premium on their health status and promised going for routine health checks.
