Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) on Wednesday August 24, 2023 inaugurated a planning committee to oversee preparations for the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) 20th Anniversary celebrations, scheduled for the end of the year 2023.
Dr. Bernard Okoe-Boye inaugurated the nine (9) member committee chaired by the Deputy Chief Executive in charge of Administration and Human Resources, Dr. Yaa Pokuaa Baiden (Mrs).
The other members are the Director, Innovations and Special Projects, Mr. Raphael Segkpeb, Director, Private Health Insurance Schemes, Alhaji Hudu Issah, Ag. Director, Procurement and Projects, Mr. Frank Yeboah, Ag. Director Budget, Management Accounting, Mr. Richard Agyeman-Badu, Ag. Director, Corporate Affairs, Mr. Oswald Essuah-Mensah,Ag. Director, Strategic Health Purchasing, Dr. Ruby-Aileen Mensah Annang (Mrs.), Deputy Dir. Investments, Eva Okai (Mrs.) and Ag. Ashanti Regional Director, Mr. Kwadwo Dwomoh.Lawyer Abdul - Mujeeb Issah Kele, Ag Manager, Legal Directorate led the Committee members to Swear an Oath of Secrecy.In his brief remarks, Dr. Okoe Boye charged the committee to work within time and ensure that the nationwide celebrations come to fruition.
He tasked the committee to work towards getting donor sponsorship and engage professionals in the planning process.
He revealed that the main activity in the programme line up will be an NHIS International Health Insurance Conference which will bring together key global experts in the health insurance sector.
Dr. Okoe Boye underscored the need to build on the foundation laid by the NHIS founding fathers and ensure that the next 20 years will yield greater strides in quality healthcare access.
A part of the celebrations, the Chief Executive reaffirmed Management's determination to upgrade the Takpo Health Center in the Nadowli-Kaleo district in the Upper West Region to a Polyclinic.
For her part, the Chairperson, Dr. Yaa Pokuaa Baiden (Mrs.) described the composition of the committee as a giant stride towards achieving Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
She said the committee through a series of events and initiatives would not only commemorate the past achievements but also pave the way for an even brighter future by showcasing the successes that the NHIS has achieved so far.
Dr. Yaa Pokuaa Baiden emphasized the significance of the NHIS in nation building and touted it as a beacon of hope for Africa and beyond.
She commended the Scheme's hardworking staff for achieving this enviable milestone and urged them to go the extra mile and work within time in achieving their annual targets of increasing the Scheme's active membership in line with the national agenda of attaining Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by the year 2030.
