The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Executive Management has unveiled the first of its kind in Ghana, four hundred and fifty one (451) staff to serve as 'Change Agents' of the Promotive, Preventive and Wellness programme.
The frontline staff underwent a two-week long intensive training on the new policy direction, initiated by the Chief Executive, Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye and Executive Management.
From the Western, Volta, Greater Accra, Oti, Central, and Eastern Regions, the Change Agents converged in Koforidua for the exercise .And from the Northern , Bono , Bono East , Savanna, Ahafo, Ashanti , North East, Western North , Savannah Upper East and Upper West the Change Agents converged in Sunyani for the exercise, conducted by a team from the NHIA Head Office led by Director of Administration, Mr. Raymond Avinu.
The Change Agents are to leverage the use of the skill set and other physical exercises tailored to promote wellness checks, serving as a catalyst to the NHIA's paradigm shift from curative to Preventive and Promotive healthcare.
During the training sessions, the Chief Executive, Dr. Da-Costa Aboagye advised the Change Agents to attach the highest standards of confidentiality to their routine activities and a lifestyle that seeks the health and well-being of all staff and the larger community. He highlighted the need for staff to champion wellness clubs, which seeks to encourage regular exercise in the various communities.
During the exercise, Madam Augustina Nartey urged the Change Agents to apply the knowledge they had acquired in the field. She emphasized the importance of regular health check-ups, exercise, and rest for NHIA staff and the general public to prevent non-communicable diseases such as high blood pressure, diabetes, and other health issues.
Madam Nartey highlighted the need for social behaviour change communication to promote healthy lifestyles and increase life expectancy for people in Ghana and beyond.
The Change Agents acquired mental health education from a clinical psychologist and mental health coordinator, Dr. Akosua Serwaa Bonsu, while a Consultant and Public Health Association Ghana President, Dr. Erasmus Agongo walked them through non-communicable diseases education.
Madam Renee Opare- Otoo's orientation focused on the Body Mass Index, food planning, and nutrition.The main goal is to encourage holistic health and wellness at the work place, healthy lifestyles by all to reduce non communicable diseases in collaboration with stakeholders.
The Change Agents promised to turn a new page and apply the acquired in-depth knowledge to perfection.
