The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) in the
Central Region has established five registration centers in Cape Coast to
enroll new members and renew existing ones as part of activities marking the
ongoing Oguaa Fetu Festival.
Acting Central Regional Director of the NHIA, Mr. Kojo
Sekyere Koi Thompson, explained that the initiative is aimed at bringing the
Scheme closer to the people while boosting public confidence.
“For us as a region, we are always trying to bring NHIS to
the doorsteps of the people. We encourage community members to renew or
register with the Scheme so they can enjoy the benefit package at all times,”
he stated.
He noted that one of the key registration points is at Brofo
Mpoano, near the Cape Coast Castle, a densely populated area, with four
additional centers spread across the city. “This is not just about renewals and
new registrations, but also about increasing membership and rebuilding
confidence in the Scheme,” he added.
The Acting Regional Operations Manager, Mr. Daniel Kofi
Nyamadi, also highlighted the Authority’s collaboration with the Department of
Social Welfare and community leaders to ensure families, especially those from
low-income backgrounds, are enrolled.
“The operation runs until Sunday, and the numbers keep
increasing. We are also moving into homes to register community members,” Mr.
Nyamadi disclosed.
The NHIA believes leveraging the Oguaa Fetu Afahye provides
a unique opportunity to expand access and strengthen the NHIS brand in the
region.
