The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) Madina
District has successfully concluded its Homowo outreach exercise, registering
approximately 6,500 people onto the Scheme over a two-month period.
The exercise, which began in August, brought health
insurance services directly to communities by setting up registration points in
mosques, lorry stations, palaces, and community centers.
In the final phase, held between 16th and 19th September,
the Madina District Office, led by District Manager Mr. Hubert Addo King
Aprawtwum and Public Relations Officer Ms. Dorothy Martinson, partnered with
the Municipal Health Directorate to extend services to the La
Nkwantanang-Madina Divisional Police Headquarters.
Police officers and staff
not only registered onto the Scheme but also benefitted from free health
screenings.
Simultaneously, another team conducted registrations in
Oyarifa from 17th to 18th September, where residents turned up in large
numbers.
The outreach climaxed at Teiman on 24th September, when the Chief and
local leaders opened the palace grounds for registration, a gesture described
as a strong show of traditional support for the initiative.
By the close of the final phase, about 2,000 new members had
been added, pushing the overall total to 6,500.
NHIS officials described the
figure as a significant step toward expanding healthcare access in the
municipality.
Beyond the numbers, the outreach strengthened collaboration
between the Authority and community stakeholders, including Assembly Members,
traditional leaders, and partner institutions.
Officials say these partnerships
were crucial to the success of the initiative.
Although the Homowo outreach officially ended on 30th
September 2025, the Madina District Office has pledged to sustain momentum
through mobile renewals, education, and sensitisation, as part of its
commitment to advancing Universal Health Coverage (UHC).
