NHIA holds a Trainer of Trainers Workshop for staff and Service Providers on Newly Introduced Digital Platforms. | 12/4/2025

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has rolled out a day's trainer of trainers sensitization workshop on some key digital innovations for service providers and NHIS staff in the Central Region.

The workshop, held in Cape Coast, aimed to familiarize stakeholders with the latest digital tools enhancing healthcare delivery and scheme operations. These key digital platforms are Biometric Membership Authentication System (BMAS), National TeleHealth, E-Pharmacy and Cashless Payment Solution System.

Mr Ebenezer Hooper, (Head, Information Security & Standards Unit-MIS Directorate) the lead facilitator for the meeting walked participants through some presentations on the tech innovations. "These tech tools will streamline processes, reduce bureaucracy, and improve service delivery," he said.

Madam Faustina Dery (Head, Communications-CAF) made a presentation on the plan of education by the NHIA for these innovations. "The NHIA is bringing healthcare closer to every Ghanaian, anywhere, anytime through technology. It is safe, convenient and accessible. All these are part of moves by the NHIA to help accelerate the nation's attainment of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) attainment", she said. 'Let us all acquaint ourselves with these digital innovations and educate others too", she ended.

Service providers and NHIS staff were trained on using the platforms, with hands-on sessions and demos. There was a brainstorming session where participants were put into groups to share their lessons, feedback and takeaways at the meeting. Dr. (Mrs) Agnes A.Anane speaking on behalf of the Central Regional Health Director, welcomed the innovations.

"This will cut delays and paperwork, improving our services to NHIS members." Mr Kojo Koi Thompson the Ag. Central Regional Director (NHIA) praised the Executive management for the innovations and assured the full cooperation and support of the region for the successful rollout and implementation of the innovations.

"We're committed to leveraging tech for efficient, quality healthcare access in helping the nation realize it's UHC," he said. The workshop ended with participants urging NHIS to ensure smooth rollout and support. "Let's embrace these innovations for better healthcare in the Central Region," said Mr Eugene Opoku Afrifa, a Deputy Director at the CPC Cape Coast office.
