The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Eastern
Regional management team galvanized staff across the region for the “Operation
Markets Storm”, which kicked off on the street in Nsawam Township.
The NHIA Membership and Regional Operations (MRO)
Directorate launched the nationwide exercise, and the objective is to boost the
National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS), active membership, targeting Universal
Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030.
A team from the NHIA Head Office comprising the Membership
and Regional Operations Acting Deputy Director (MRO), Margaret Morrison (Mrs.),
Acting Deputy Director in charge of Provider and Client Relations, Ms. Hamdiya
Amadu Yakubu, Senior Manager, Mercy Wireduwaa Awuah, and Manager, Mr. George
Yaw Danso participated in the procession.
The team educated people on the NHIS Benefit Package,
Medicine List, members rights and responsibilities, the MyNHIS App, the Mobile
Renewal Service short code, *929#, and linking the Scheme and the Ghana cards.
The procession and onsite registration enhanced the
Authority’s brand visibility and rebuilt public confidence in the NHIS.
Ms. Hamdiya Amadu Yakubu underscored the need for all
residents in Ghana and foreigners on long visits to the country to enroll onto
the NHIS.
She inspired the NHIS active members to resist illegal
charges at the point of need. “If you know the services and medicines that are
already covered by the Scheme, you won't pay for them illegally. I urge the
public to serve as our active partners in the fight against fraud.”
The Acting Eastern Regional Director, Mr. Frank Addo
explained the significance of the operation markets storm, saying, “The NHIS
Storm Project is an essential step in bringing our services directly to the
people. It is a call for action to secure the health and financial well-being
of every citizen. Today's float and sensitization in Nsawam demonstrates our
commitment to leave no one behind in our quest for UHC. We welcome all new
members who have joined the Scheme today.”
