NHIA Drives Awareness at Volta Fair as Public Embraces Waiting Period Waiver | 12/4/2025

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has begun its participation in this year’s Volta Fair with a strong public engagement drive aimed at deepening awareness of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS). Ahead of the fair’s official opening, which runs from 1st to 8th December, the NHIA team made an initial stop at the Regional Office in Ho, where staff finalized preparations for activities scheduled at the Ho Stadium.

This year’s fair provides a strategic platform for the Authority to interact directly with residents, exhibitors, and visitors. With a renewed focus on improving access to healthcare, the NHIA used the first two days to intensify sensitization on the Scheme’s benefits, service coverage, and membership requirements.

At the Ho Stadium, the NHIA set up an engaging and approachable information stand where staff attended to hundreds of patrons. Attendees took the opportunity to ask questions, check their membership status, and learn more about services available under the Scheme. Staff emphasized the importance of maintaining an active membership to ensure uninterrupted access to healthcare, while also highlighting the convenience and customer-focused services available to members.

A key message throughout the outreach was the ongoing waiver of the one-month waiting period for new registrants, a policy widely welcomed by the public. NHIA officers educated visitors on how the waiver allows new members to receive healthcare benefits immediately after registration. The team also sensitized SSNIT contributors on their automatic annual membership renewals, which guarantee seamless coverage without the need for manual renewal.

Day Two saw a notable boost in visibility when the Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, visited the NHIA stand. He commended the Authority for its proactive initiatives and applauded NHIA staff nationwide for their dedication to ensuring accessible healthcare for all. His visit drew more attention to the stand and reinforced the Scheme’s relevance to the public.

Overall, the NHIA’s engagement during the first two days of the Volta Fair has been highly impactful, enhancing public understanding, clarifying policies, and encouraging many individuals to register or renew their NHIS membership. As the fair continues, the Authority remains committed to strengthening community engagement and advancing the goal of universal health coverage across the region.
