Deputy Chief Executive in charge
of Operations for the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Louisa
Atta-Agyemang (Mrs.), on June 25, 2024 paid a working visit to the F. Alpha and
Omega Specialist Hospital in Madina, in the Greater Region.
The move formed part of efforts
to strengthen the NHIA's bond with credentialed healthcare providers and to
ensure that the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) active members are well
caterered for at the point of need without incurring extra costs.
She interacted with some NHIS members on admission in
various wards and they confided in her that the NHIS covered all their medical
bills. The patients expressed their profound gratitude for not paying extra
monies for services covered by the NHIS.
Mrs. Atta-Agyemang commended the hospital's management
for their exemplary services, highlighting credentialed healthcare providers
role in enhancing the sustenance of the NHIS. She was pleased with the hospital management's
initiative to register and renew expired cards for patients free of charge and
called on other credentialled healthcare providers to adopt similar practices
to enhance accessibility to quality healthcare and as revive public trust in
the NHIS.
She advised credentialed
healthcare providers to desist from extorting monies (illegal charges) from
NHIS members for services covered by the Scheme, adding that it is punishable
by law.
Chief Executive Officer of the F.
Alpha and Omega Specialist Hospital, Mr. Francis Fosu said management targets
registering 20,000 more people onto the NHIS for free. According to him, 7,000
people were so far registered as at the time of the delegation's visit to the
