NHIA Deputy Chief Executive for Operations engages credentialed healthcare providers | 8/6/2024

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Deputy Chief Executive for Operations, Louisa Atta-Agyemang (Mrs.) on July 18, 2024, addressed Tier 3 credentialed primary healthcare providers, comprising CHPS Compounds, Health Centers and Maternity Homes.  

 

She was the Guest Speaker at the 10th edition of the World Bank in partnership with the NHIA sponsored ongoing nationwide trainer of trainers program held in the Eastern Regional capital, Koforidua, where the participants  acquired in-depth knowledge of the Android version of the Claim IT system of electronic Claims management.  

 

The system seeks to empower them to  become more efficient in Claims management and increase efficiency in Ghana's healthcare delivery through the NHIS.   Louisa Atta-Agyemang (Mrs.) in her key note speech highlighted the program’s importance and encouraged the participants to fully subscribe to the platform.

 

  According to her, the system has so far helped in improving the speed and accuracy of Claims processing and reducing the administrative burden on healthcare providers.   She reaffirmed the NHIA Executive Management's commitment to boosting the confidence of NHIS members, reiterating the desire to combat  illegal charges (extortions) by some credentialed healthcare providers and thereby implored them to focus on delivering quality healthcare.  

 

Among other dignitaries, the NHIA Ag. Director of Claims, Dr. Abigail Nyarko Codjoe Derkyi Kwarteng, Ag. Director Membership and Regional Operations, Mr. Oti Frempong, and the project team lead, Dr. Gustav Cruickshank briefly addressed the participants.   The NHIA Director, Financial Accounting, Dr. Gustav Cruickshank, is the team lead of the  ongoing nationwide trainer of trainers program.    In the broadest view, the trainer of trainers exercise is to be replicated across Ghana's 16 administrative regions.  

 

World Bank Funding 

The World Bank Group has  offered Twenty-Seven Million, Seven Hundred Thousand United States Dollars ($27.7 M) to the NHIA, to increase the NHIS annual active membership, and as well facilitate Claims processing and payments for credentialed service providers, maximum within 90 (ninety) days.   The World Bank sponsorship is in line with the global agenda of attaining Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by the year 2030.  

 

In a related development, Louisa Atta-Agyemang (Mrs.) touched base with staff of the New Juaben North and New Juaben South NHIS District Offices.   She engaged the frontline staff in a friendly manner and asked them to increase the NHIS active membership, while Executive Management take steps to fix their operational challenges.
