The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), through its
Corporate Affairs Directorate’s Brands and Marketing Unit, has intensified its
“Festival Intrusion” campaign in the Volta Region.
In collaboration with the
NHIA Volta Regional and Ho District Offices, the team engaged residents on
Global FM’s Global Morning Show, where discussions centered on the NHIS benefit
package and measures to address illegal payments.
Speaking on the programme, NHIS Ho District Manager, Mr.
Saviour Amakpa, stressed the importance of reminding residents of the value of
the NHIS card.
“This exercise is to make our members understand and feel
the relevance of NHIS within the Ho Municipality. Some people think the card is
no longer useful, but we want them to know it still holds significant
benefits,” he said. He added that no accredited health facility in the Volta
Region could claim the NHIA owed them unless such facilities had failed to
submit their claims within the stipulated 90-day period.
Addressing the issue of illegal payments, Miss Alberta Naa
Ode Okai, Senior Manager of the Brands and Marketing Unit, disclosed that the
Authority had sanctioned Akim Oda Hospital for engaging in the practice.
“The Akim Oda Hospital was reprimanded and directed to
refund the money. We also operate a call center where members can report cases
of being charged for services covered under the Scheme. Where necessary, we
liaise with district offices to ensure refunds are made,” she explained.
As part of the campaign, the NHIA team also participated in
the Summit of Ewe Chiefs from Ghana, Togo, and Benin, extending its engagement
to traditional leaders and strengthening community ties across the region.
