NHIA Commissions NHIS Satellite Office in Beposo to Expand Healthcare Access | 11/5/2025

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), under the leadership of its Chief Executive, Dr. Victor Asare Bampoe, has commissioned a satellite office of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) at Beposo in the Bosomtwe District of the Ashanti Region.

The initiative forms part of Dr. Bampoe’s broader vision to bring NHIS services closer to communities and enhance access to healthcare in line with President John Dramani Mahama’s short-term goal of achieving universal health coverage (UHC).

The office was commissioned on Tuesday, November 4, 2025, by Dr Bampoe and assisted by traditional leaders in Beposo and its environs.

As his maternal hometown, the Chief and people of Beposo, along with the surrounding communities, welcomed Dr. Bampoe with praise, applause, hugs, singing, dancing, and chants, celebrating what they described as his visionary leadership and tangible results at the NHIA.

This gesture was met with widespread appreciation and is expected to boost NHIS enrollment in the area. Before the official commissioning, Dr. Bampoe paid a courtesy call on the Kontihene of the Beposo Traditional Area, Nana Appiah Nuamah III, to pay homage and seek his blessings to better deliver on his mandate as the current CEO of the NHIA.

The visit to the traditional leaders was followed by a community durbar, preceding the commissioning, where the Chief and residents expressed deep gratitude for the gesture. In a further show of goodwill, Dr. Bampoe sanctioned a free NHIS registration exercise for residents of Beposo and surrounding communities from Tuesday, November 4, 2025, to Thursday, November 6th, 2025, at his own cost.

Residents, traditional leaders, and community members gathered in their numbers at the durbar to honor his achievements and welcome him home. The commissioning marks another milestone in the NHIA’s expansion drive aimed at strengthening community-level access to healthcare financing and ensuring that no Ghanaian is left behind in the pursuit of universal health coverage.

Nana Appiah Nuamah III

Addressing the durbar, Nana Appiah Nuamah III commended both President John Dramani Mahama and Dr. Bampoe for remembering Beposo in national development initiatives. “Not too long ago, I had a discussion with Dr. Bampoe concerning some challenges facing this community and its environs. He assured me that if God permitted, he would provide some support.

Thanks to President John Dramani Mahama for appointing a proud son of this area to head the NHIA. Today, we are witnessing the fulfillment of his promise,” he said. Nana Appiah Nuamah III further called on residents to pray for President Mahama and Dr. Bampoe for their continued success, describing their work as “satisfactory, commendable, and beyond understanding.”

He emphasised that until the establishment of the new NHIS office, residents of Beposo and neighboring towns had to travel long distances, often to Konongo and other towns to register or renew their NHIS membership. The Chief lauded Dr. Bampoe’s selflessness and fairness, noting that despite his influence, he has prioritised community welfare over personal or family interests.

Dr Bampoe

Addressing the durbar, Dr. Bampoe expressed deep joy and gratitude for the warm reception. “I am very, very happy to be here because I have come home. I want to thank our President, John Dramani Mahama, for the confidence he has reposed in me by appointing me as CEO of the NHIA, a huge responsibility, and for his strong commitment to healthcare delivery. He is the one who has made the NHIA and NHIS what they are today,” he said,

Dr. Bampoe explained that his decision to establish the office in Beposo was inspired by the adage “charity begins at home.” “While delivering on the mandate of the NHIA, it is incumbent on me to ensure that my maternal hometown is not left out. It is only proper that we bring NHIS services closer to the people of Beposoman and the entire Ashanti Region to ensure they have access to quality healthcare through the NHIS.”

He reaffirmed that the commissioning was in line with President Mahama’s vision of ensuring that all Ghanaians benefit fully from the NHIS without having to make additional payments at health facilities, so that we can attain Universal Health Coverage. “It is the President’s vision that all NHIS members can access healthcare using the Scheme and enjoy its full benefit package without paying top-ups. “This is also the vision that the NHIA is working so hard to achieve — and with the interventions in place, we know it will soon become a reality,” he assured.

Dr. Bampoe thanked the traditional leaders and the people of Beposo for their massive support and turnout at the event, adding that the satellite office was only the beginning of more development initiatives. “This office is just the beginning of greater things to come for Beposoman and its environs, with the help of God and the government,” he said.

He also praised Nana Appiah Nuamah III for his visionary leadership and continued advocacy for community development. “We pray that God will continue to give us wisdom and resources to do more for Beposoman, the Ashanti Region, and the country as a whole,” he said. He expressed appreciation to NHIA staff at both the regional and head office levels for their dedication and hard work in making the Beposo project a reality.
