The newly appointed Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Dr. DaCosta Aboagye, has outlined his vision after taking over as head of the authority.

Speaking at a staff durbar organized by the transition team to officially announce his assumption of office, Dr. Aboagye indicated that his focus as the Chief Executive among others will be to drive the promotion and implementation of Preventive health care where members of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) would benefit from at least an annual basic medical check.

This according to the new NHIA boss, will not only improve the health-seeking behaviour of Ghanaians but also serve as a cost-effective means of preventing or minimizing grave medical complications which the Scheme would have to pay should the condition of the NHIS member aggravate.

On boosting membership and coverage of the NHIS, Dr. Aboagye reiterated the need to champion the institutionalization of travel medical insurance in Ghana; providing access to healthcare for diasporans who have for many years made Ghana their preferred holiday destination, especially after the introduction of the year of return and the beyond the return policy.

This he stated would cushion millions of holidaymakers and offer financial risk protection against unplanned medical emergencies. In a speech delivered by the outgoing CEO Dr. Okoe Boye, he thanked the staff of the NHIA and his deputies for their love and support during his tenure. He admonished staff to extend the same courtesies to the new CEO.

He intimated that in line with his service to Ghana as health minister, he would continue to work closely with the staff of NHIA towards making the Authority the most visible and reliable public service organization in Ghana.

Dr. Aboagye on the other hand charged staff to uphold great work ethic and thanked the President and Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia for the confidence reposed in him to take up this mantle. He assured them that he would deliver on his mandate.

Present at the staff durbar was the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Andrew Asiamah Amoako, Dr. Isaac Charles Noble Morrison (Board Member and leader of the transition team), Madam Joyce Konokie Zempare (Board Member), Dr. Sylvester Yaw Oppong (Board Member), Hon.
