The Kumawuhene, Barima Sarfo Tweneboah Kodua, has expressed delight at the appointment of Dr. Dacosta Aboagye as the new Chief Executive of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
In his remarks as the event chairman for the commissioning of a new ultramodern NHIS District office complex in Kumawu, Barima Sarfo Tweneboah Kodua thanked His Excellency, the President, and His Vice for honouring the people of Kumawu with this appointment.
Barima Tweneboah Kodua recounted how instrumental Prof. Adu Gyamfi (a previous NHIA Board Chair) had been in getting the building started as far back as 2019.
He praised the professor as a selfless individual who thought well about the development of his hometown. Dr. Aboagye, on his part, thanked the chiefs for a warm welcome back home and pleaded for their prayers and support to succeed in the new role.
He explained his four point vision that aims to end illegal charges at healthcare facilities, reduce NHIA ICT costs over time by issuing Ghana cards to children between ages 6 to 14, enhance the NHIS Benefit Package to include an annual basic medical health check for members of the Scheme.
This he said would increase the health seeking behaviour of Ghanaians and help reduce the quantum of bills paid to treat patients ( NHIS Members) for chronic disease conditions.
The NHIA Boss also opined that he will champion a plan to institutionalise the provision of mandatory health insurance for all visitors coming into Ghana.
His plans drew applause from the public and staff of the Scheme, especially when he announced his intention to provide NHIA staff with Life Insurance Policies.
He went on to further thank staff for their commitment to duty and encouraged them to take very good care of the new office building.
The current Board Chair, Dr. Ernest Kwarko also pledged the support of the board to ensure a successful tenure for the new CEO. On the dais were the MP for the area, District Chief Executive, and institutional heads from the government agencies.
The rest were the Deputy Chief Executive Admin and HR, Dr. Mrs. Yaa Pokuaa Baiden and other officials of the Authority.
