NHIS Mobile Renewal Service dominates APSCA 2019 Conference |10/24/2019

  Ghana's National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) homemade Mobile Renewal Service, dominated a high panel discussion on Leadership and Stewardship in the Public Sector at the second edition of Africa Public Sector Conference and Awards (APSCA).

 

  This was at the Movenpick Hotel in Accra where a Deputy Chief Executive Officer , Administration/Human Resources (DCE Admin / HR) at the NHIA, Mrs. Yaa Pokuaa Baiden featured prominently in a panel discussion.  

 

The theme for the second edition is, "Enhancing Public Sector Efficiency through Digitization."   Head of Ghana's Civil Service, Nana Kwesi Agyekum Dwamena praised the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) for enhancing the NHIS through Digitization   He made reference to the successful implementation of the Mobile Renewal Service application and urged others to emulate it.  

 

"The NHIS Mobile Renewal Service is a useful thing and I encourage other institutions to enhance public sector efficiency."   In sharing the NHIS achievements so far, Mrs. Yaa Pokuaa Baiden said the NHIA's new leadership put in place a firm structure to get the best staff performance.   She attributed the achievements to staff motivation, pay reforms, promotions, continuous training programs, freedom of expression among other initiatives.  

 

According to her, honesty and accountability remained the NHIA's hallmark.   "We need leaders who are fit for purpose, leading by example and having constant staff engagements," she emphasized.   Mrs. Yaa Pokuaa Baiden reaffirmed the NHIS core mandate to provide equitable access and financial coverage for basic health care services to residents in Ghana.

 

  This, she envisaged would lead to Ghana's attainment of the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030.   An academic, from the Kenya School of Government, Professor. Ludeki Chweya stated, "Time is of essence in leadership."   He therefore urged leaders in the public sector to use their competencies and skills to deliver their mandate saying, "Leaders must take responsibility."  

 

The Africa Public Sector Conference and Awards (APSCA) is spearheaded by Instinct Wave.   The APSCA 2019 Conference sought to provide opportunities to build partnership, share insights on strategies, policies and best practices that will drive efficient and smarter public service delivery in Africa.  

 

APSCA is a gathering of leaders in the public and private sectors across Africa to provide opportunities to build partnerships, share insights on strategies, policies and best practices that will drive more efficient and smarter public services in Africa.  

 

It is also a celebration of excellence, accomplishments, growth and innovation of public and private sector organizations in Africa.
