National Health Insurance Scheme

Staff at the head office of the NHIA   have benefited from a one-day free medical screening organized by management. The theme for the exercise was “Being active is not same as being healthy”.

The medical screening was conducted by a team of 20 medical experts made up of Ophthalmologists, Optometrists and Ophthalmic Nurses from the Ridge Hospital who checked the sugar levels, blood pressure, eye screening, hepatitis B and Body Mass Index of staff.
Health screening helps to find out if one has a particular disease or condition. Early detection, followed by treatment and good control of the condition can result in better treatment outcomes, and lowers the risk of serious complications.

Those with more serious conditions such as eye problems, high sugar level and high blood pressure were referred to clinics or hospitals for treatment.
Most staffs were grateful for the opportunity offered them and thanked management for their commitment in ensuring staffs’ welfare is secured.

This exercise is part of NHIA Management's commitment to ensuring a healthy workforce for increased productivity and longevity. Management is aware that lifestyle ailments are on the increase, and deemed it as the first step towards its commitment to preventing and creating awareness among staff.

It recognizes the importance of SDG 3 in ensuring that people not just survive, but live long and healthy as specified in the SDG target 3.4 as a viable means of preventing Non Communicable Diseases (NCDs).
