NHIA firms up Media Relations|2/5/2020

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) is strengthening its relationship with the traditional media to increase the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) active membership.

 

A team led by a Deputy Director, Marketing, Oswald Essuah-Mensah is touching base with the Authority’s media partners charting a new path to educate the masses on the significance of the NHIS.The team has so far visited the offices of the Finder, Gold Street Business, Daily Guide, Chronicle, Business and Financial Times, Ghana News Agency and the Statesman.

 

According to Mr. Essuah-Mensah, despite the influx of social media, the NHIA respects its mainstream media partners as channels in interacting and responding to the needs of its members.He thanked the media partners for their unflinching backing and said the NHIA will strike the right balance in partnering with them to educate the public on NHIS initiatives and reforms aimed at building members confidence and patronage of the Scheme.At a meeting with management of the Ghana News Agency (GNA) Mr. Essuah-Mensah said a total of 9.1 million renewed their membership in 2019 out of which more than 5.8 million members representing 70 per cent used the Mobile Renewal System.“This is the highest to be recorded since the introduction of the social intervention in 2003 as it offers ease and convenience to members to simply dial *929# on their mobile phones and pay with money from their mobile money wallets to stay active.”

 

“The Mobile Renewal System also helped the Authority to improve its revenue mobilization efforts. The text messaging feature, which assesses the claims of service providers to know how genuine their claims are, allows members the opportunity to provide feedback on their attendance.

 

”Mr. Essuah-Mensah said Universal Health Coverage (UHC) remained the NHIA’s major priority which he added would require media collaboration.General Manager of the Ghana News Agency, Albert Kofi Owusu (Mr.) described the NHIA as a strategic partner and reaffirmed his team’s determination to give prominence to the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS).NHIA CEO meets the Press 2019Ending the year 2019, Dr. Selby met the Press and highlighted the importance of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Mobile Renewal Service.

 

This was in commemoration of the first anniversary of the multiple awards winning Mobile Renewal Service.The meeting sought to project the right image and reputation of the NHIA and the entire nation as the first destination of attaining Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030.It also offered the media the opportunity to ask questions and share ideas with the NHIA to enable management design a road map towards leveraging the achievements made so far.

 

Present at the meeting were Directors, Deputy Directors, Managers and some staff of the NHIA, Head office.The NHIA CEO urged the participants to spark a nationwide conversation on the impact of the NHIS and the need for all residents in Ghana to be active members.
