National Health Insurance Scheme

Malian delegation understudies NHIS |8/29/2017

A six-member technical delegation from Mali has paid a study visit to the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA).
The five-day visit to the authority is to understudy the operations and the running of Ghana’s health insurance scheme and improve on the Malian’s health insurance scheme.

Welcoming the delegation, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer of Operations, Dr Lydia Dsane–Selby, expressed Ghana’s willingness to help in providing technical assistance to Mali. She was appreciative of the delegation’s confidence in Ghana’s health insurance scheme and the decision to share in the authority’s experience over the years.

The leader of the team, Dr Doucga Camara, said Mali was looking forward to a new health insurance scheme in 2018 as part of its efforts to ensure 100 per cent coverage and also guarantee access to quality health care.

Dr Camara hinted that Mali had been confronted with a number of challenges since the inception of the Health Insurance Scheme, hence the visit to Ghana to understudy its NHIS.
Various Directorates at the Authority took turns to share lessons with the delegation. The delegation also spent a day in Management Information System(MIS), Provider Payment, Quality Assurance, Claims Processing Center (CPC) and Corporate Affairs directorates to have a one- on- one discussion with staff on the day to day running of the health insurance scheme. The Malian delegation later visited the Dodowa district office of the Authority.
