NHIA District Offices in Upper East gets motorbikes|9/23/2020

The National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA) has distributed 32 licensed motorbikes to the Upper East Regional and District offices to boost staff performances. The move is to enable staff at the regional and district offices reach out to deprived communities where the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) serves as the people’s lifeguard. This timely intervention seeks to enhance efficiency in the operations of the NHIS as Ghana is geared towards attaining Universal Health Coverage (UHC) by 2030.At a short ceremony, Upper East Regional NHIA Director, Mr. Sebastian Alagpulinsa on behalf of Executive Management handed over the motorbikes to the district management teams. He said, “It is the hope of management that with the motorbikes, staff will be able to register new members onto the NHIS and also renew active members’ in the region to enable the country achieve Universal Health Coverage by 2030.”“As at June 2020, the region had covered 52 percent of the population and I hope that with the motorbikes staff can cover hard-to-reach communities to register and renew NHIS membership to cover the entire population in the region.” Over the years, inadequate transportation has been a major obstacle to the District Offices meeting their annual targets of NHIS coverage. This is usually due to dispersed settlements that are inaccessible especially during the rainy season.
